When patch 4.0.1 hit, I couldn’t bring myself to log in for over a week. I read up on the cataclysmic class changes I was going to have to acclimate myself to and I was dreading having to relearn my class. I knew that I was going to reconfigure my action bars, my glyphs, my gems, my vuhdo spell settings and some of my UI elements as well. The work I had ahead of me seemed daunting.
I always pre-game before I go to the party. While pouring over various blog post and resource sites (a big shoutout Opelie forthispost) it became obvious to me that with the new pally healing spell priority I was going to need something better than stock UI to track the CD of Holy Shock and a number of procs. I have tried to configure the in-game combat text to make give me only important information but it is still too spammy. I use MIK Scrolling Battle Text but again it didn’t do the trick. I needed something that screamed, “Yo, Porkchop, Check it out, INFUSION OF LIGHT”, or “Woot! Daybreak”.
I tried a few add-ons but I eventually decided on ProcWatch because I like the simple setup. Despite my best efforts to use add-ons to simplify my UI, I have so many that my screen is littered. It’s a little embarrassing. Procwatch allows you to set tiles with CD timers for spell CDs and procs so it was two birds one stone here. It also lets you place them wherever you want on your screen and also allows for resizing. I had to pick up HolyTrinity too. This is basically an add-on that will track stacks of holy power and spell CDs. I found out this add-ons was not the best add-on for tracking spell CDs but was the moveable, resizable HP bar of my dreams.
After updating old add-ons I took the plunge and finally logged in for the first time. Reconfiguring my action bars, and glyphs (which I plan to talk about in a later post) was a piece of cake it and I had a diagram drawn out for programming my mouse button spells for vuhdo. I sat in Dal and launched a barage or heals on a random player to get a feel of where I was at. I was starting to feel reacquainted with my old friend again but it was time to take the girl into some heroics and really stretch our fingers. Cont’d in Part 2
