Trinkets have always been my favorite pieces of gear, with weapons being a close second. I love that you can’t always measure how good a trinket is by it’s ilvl. Like the Purified Onyxia Blood Talisman trinket for tanking. I used it right up untill Icecrown opened for business and I got my second 251 trinket. I always have collected trinkets.
In fact cleaning out my bank recently, I had trinkets dating back to Naxx that made me way too sentimental trying to delete. I could not bring myself to delete my Onxyia trinket. I didn’t have nearly as much trouble deleting my T10 gear as I did letting go of my trinket collection.
Trinkets are so much fun. I like being able to swap them out for different fights. I love being able to use different combinations to different effects and being able to macro them to other abilities. When are we going to get a legendary trinket? How cool would that be? C’mon Blizz please…
Anyway let’s go over what we have for trinkets available from regular raiding content and in a later post I may talk about the heroic versions. There’s a lot of debate over which are the best and I want to hear what the community at large is excited about adding to their trinket slots.
Jar of Ancient Remedies Binds when picked up Unique-Equipped

Equip: Your healing spells grant Inner Eye, increasing spirit by 103 for 15 sec and stacking up to 5 times. Use: Grants 6420 mana, but consumes all applications of Inner Eye and prevents Inner Eye from being triggered for 30 sec. (2 Min Cooldown)drops from Maloriak

Here are the current options for ilvl 359 PvE healing trinkets and between you and me Mandala and Lifebound Alchemist Stone (not listed above) with their Mastery stat increase just are not an option. Right now Holy Paladin Mastery is just the crust in our stat pie with int, spirit, haste and crit being the ooey gooey goodness inside. You’re going to be better off using heroic dungeon trinkets over either of these.
Edit: With the change to Mandala in 4.0.6, this trinket becomes an easily accessible epic trinket worthwhile for holy paladins.
Jar of Ancient Remedies is probably my number one pick for trinket. I am going to be gunning for this pretty hard if it drops when we down Maloriak tonight. Not only does this trinket provide more mp5 after the ramp up than any other trinket but can be used on a 2 minute Cd to give you back some sweet sweet mana. Bonus: can also be used to give a fellow healer or dps mana too! I have read that there is a bug where the USE function does not work unless you target yourself or an ally but this macro is a workaround

Tyrande’s Favorite Doll yields the next highest mp5 with the same int bonus as the rest of the trinkets. From what I read this trinket is very, very hard to farm and I haven’t been very good about working on my Archy. I don’t plan on having this trinket ever but if I did then it might clock in as second on my list. Worth about 350mp5 for healers when used on the one minute Cd.
Darkmoon Card: Tsunami is a much more reasonable pick for a second trink slot. Unfortunately this trinket is not a drop so some people may not be able to afford it. If you’re not lucky enough to be able to make it yourself then you should definitely check out The Holy Paladin Blogs guide to getting it on the cheap. You can find it here. This beastly craftable can add an easy 260mp5 in a constant stream so nothing to think about just equip it and go. Amazing for Holy Pallies because it double procs with beacon and can proc all five stacks from light of dawn if you hit five targets.
Fall of Mortality has a variable proc rate of roughly about once every 60-90 seconds. This equals out to be about 298-198 mp5. This even at its minimum would be worth more mp5 than The Core, so don’t waste your valor points. If you don’t want to miss out on the int bonus from trinkets then leave out The Jar and use this along with Tsunami or The Doll
I would not advise wasting your valor points on The Core of Ripeness. It only results in about 195 mp5 when used on Cd. Only pick this up if you have so many extra valor points that you don’t know what to do with them and no other ilvl 359 epic PvE trinkets.
I’m so offended: pie crust is tasty, our mastery is not!
I kid, I kid. Delicious list. I’m going for Jar and Tsunami, myself. 🙂
I find when I eat pie. I start with the point and after every bite as I move toward the outer edge each bite gets less and less apetizing, just like when I am working my way down our stat list. That last bit of crust with no filling is always left on my plate. Ofc after it’s been reforged its not quite as bad and I might eat it :p
Last night I got the Jar from Maloriak and I noticed the boost in mp5. I think there might be some strange sound effect associated with this trinket when you leave combat. Does anyone know anything about it? I think it might get really old really fast.
Mandala is changing to a INT proc in 4.0.6:

My next project is to work on compound conditions for Power Auras. If I can get that working then I’ll see about something to notify me when Mandala procs, mana is below 80%, and Divine Plea is available. There’s not much else for me to buy in Tol Barad and I am also a sucker for trinkets.
I’m particularly sad at how poorly the pair of Onyxia healing trinkets worked out. I managed to grab the 245 pair. They never seemed to perform as well as my Ulduar or ToC trinkets.
Wow thanks for the tip on the Mandala Joe. Is it just me or does it feel like most of these trinkets in current raiding content are too similar?
Great idea for Power Auras. I know I should probably spend some more time getting to learn it becuase it’s a pretty awesome addon.
Also couldn’t agree more about the Ony healing trinket.
I like Tyrande’s and Tsunami over the Jar becuase they add a flat +INT and have mana return on the back end. Of course I got lucky and got my doll very fast (maybe 3 hours of farming after I hit 525 Arch) and I went into Cata with a bankroll knowing that the new cards would be expensive – but available.
Also – until they fix the proc animation on the Jar – blech. Our resto druid has it and it looks like he’s having a seizure.
I will say that if I didn’t have the two I already have, I would probably take the Jar, and I certainly won’t turn my nose up at it if we get a heroic version (course, we have to kill Nef first).
I’m usually a fan of unattended trinkets, but I am getting so much better at paying attention to various On Use cooldowns ever since the new mana regen paradigm. A massive INT proc from the Mandala just seems like it would be too good to pass up for a boost to Plea – as regen and to offset the output reduction. Of course it could just have a crap proc rate, leading to a 3min Plea rotation instead of 2mins.
Seriously, though, is there anything else to buy from Tol Barad? I’ve already picked up the 346 Blade of the Burning Sun. I guess I could get the mace with Heartsong and weapon swap for short fights to the sword with Power Torrent… meh.
I heart TB and I see Blizz expanding it and adding more rewards like the argent tourney. WTB more jousting dailies. JK 🙂
I picked up the Mandala pre patch in anticipation of the change to an int proc – I’m also holding out for the new alchemist stone – 351 int (with a gem), 194 haste and +40% mana from potions.
For someone who is only starting out raiding, and hasn’t the valor points for the Core of Ripeness, these represent an easily achievable combination of mana, regen and throughput.
I haven’t got lucky with the doll (maybe one day!) and I didn’t have the 99000g needed to buy the Card (it’s an insane price, I know but so far it has only been available once on my server)
On a final note, and for non raiders/people who are unlucky with drops, how would darkmoon card:greatness stack up – I read somewhere that the uptime for it is around 70%, so 90 int, plus an average of 210 int from the proc should beat most <=333 ilevel trinkets, at least with napkin maths.
Over at Lifeingroup5, Vixsyn has done an interesting comparison of mana regen trinkets (http://lifeingroup5.com/?p=1886) – the spreadsheet makes for interesting (!) reading.
Thank for the tips on the new alchemist stone. I don’t know how I could have missed news like that. I am more than a little dissappointed with the current one. I never thought about Darkmoon Card: Greatness but I think you make a good point if the uptime is 70% but its going to be less since the internal Cd on this trinket is once every 45 seconds. Everyone should check out Vixsyns comparison of trinkets. I heart spreadsheets!
One nice thing about the Tsunami proc – a single heal appears to be able to give 3 stacks via the direct heal, PoTI and Beacon.
